Employer Overview

Great employees are in short supply.

As we spend time with Baltimore employers, we consistently hear that the biggest challenge they face is the ability to attract, retain and motivate employees. The Center for Urban Families develops a unique relationship with our employer partners that gives them the confidence to hire individuals whom they might not otherwise consider hiring – individuals with prior incarcerations, limited work history or substance abuse issues.

Our STRIVE Job Readiness program trains motivated low-income residents of Baltimore’s most challenged communities. The curriculum centers on attitudinal training rather than hard skills, addressing the obstacle to employment most frequently cited among those who hire low-skill workers.

STRIVE is an intensive three-week course which focuses on attitudinal training, workplace etiquette, proper attire and behavior, and developing and maintaining positive workplace behaviors and habits.

From the employer’s perspective, we become their placement partner. Our job development staff works one-on-one with each employer to understand their needs and to match them with the best employees for the position. We then follow the employees within their position(s) for two years to be sure that we can support them in the event that they confront the inevitable hurdles of consistent employment. We also make ourselves available to our employers to intervene if necessary with an employee facing a challenge.

The result for you as an employer is an employee who is motivated, positive, supported, and successful.
