Marilyn Aklin, Director of Development, of the Center for Urban Families (CFUF) has successfully graduated as a member of The Leadership Class of 2022.

Marilyn is one of 61 regional leaders selected for The Leadership’s 38th class, joining more than 1,800 alumni who have preceded them.  Click here to see a complete list of the Class of 2022.

Marilyn has more than 30 years of experience in fundraising, workforce and community development, TRIO Programs, Title I parental involvement policy and advocacy, international relief, and higher education. At CFUF, she is responsible for fundraising, marketing and communications, grants compliance, and operates the CFUF Homebuying Assistance Program.  She earned the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and the Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of South Carolina; the Doctor of Public Administration degree from the University of Baltimore; and the Master of Theological Studies from the Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC. Marilyn is also the pastor of Micah African Methodist Episcopal Mission Church, Baltimore, MD.

“The Class of 2022 joins a legacy of leaders in Baltimore who have contributed significantly to Baltimore, strengthening our organizations and the civic fabric of our community. Through their experience together, these leaders will further strengthen their capacity to mobilize others to catalyze change throughout the region,” shared David Sachs, Executive Director of The Leadership.

The Flagship Program is a 9-month experiential leadership program that develops participants in three areas:

  • Deepening their understanding of Baltimore’s history, challenges, assets, and people
  • Strengthening their capacity to lead, particularly in a civic context
  • Forging substantive relationships with fellow class members to provide a platform for collective action

“The Leadership experience has transformed my life forever. It helped me to grow as a leader and as a strategic thinker.  It also has helped me to now count as my peers, a group of the most talented leaders from around the Baltimore region.  That is incredible, shared Marilyn Aklin.
