Board Member Spotlight: Scott Sherman
Believing that we all have a responsibility to make our community better, Scott Sherman joined the Center for Urban Families (CFUF) Board of Directors in 2010. "I accepted the invitation to serve on the Board because CFUF’s mission to stabilize families and create opportunities for  economic success resonated so strongly with me,” says the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at T. Rowe Price. “I was impressed with CFUF’s demonstrated ability to have a positive impact. Joe Jones and his team have a proven record of achievement locally as well as a stellar reputation regionally and nationally.”

Sherman is particularly impressed with the “immediate, real-time change” he sees whenever he attends the orientation for the STRIVE workforce development program. He witnesses clients “change before my eyes” as they experience a preview of the kind of attention and mentoring they receive during the four-week training program. “You can just see how a little bit of instruction, in areas where probably no one has taken the time before, can make an instant difference in how our clients begin to look at the world and how they regard themselves."

Participating in CFUF’s strategic planning, organizational design, and program quality initiatives, Sherman focuses on helping CFUF sustain appropriate growth and achieve measurable success. “CFUF has accomplished amazing things in its first decade, and I believe we can do even more in the next 10 years. The organization, with Joe’s leadership, will enhance our ability to measure the quality of our programs and to demonstrate to our clients and our funders that our programs meaningfully fulfill our mission. I’m convinced we’ll raise our game in outcomes research and in our capacity to be a national resource for responsible fatherhood and workforce development.”

Despite a busy work schedule at a global asset management firm, Sherman is committed to CFUF and the disenfranchised families it serves. “It’s a privilege to work with the Center for Urban Families, its gifted staff, and dedicated Board members. As a team, we’re going to do everything we possibly can to ensure a bright future for the people and communities we serve.”
